Sports clubs for kids

One great way for kids to stay active is to join a sports club. The benefits are enormous.

Of course the first benefit is the physical activity your child will participate in. There are sports clubs offering a huge range of activities, from the traditional, such as football and baseball, swimming and tennis, or karate and gymnastics, through to the less obvious - archery or golf perhaps? Which you choose will depend on both your children's interests, and also what you want them to get out of their activity - is it just fun, do they need to lose weight, or are you looking for them to learn the virtues of team work and playing on a team?

For a parent, there is the comfort of knowing that your child is having a fun time in a supervised environment. With the level of training and vetting required of club coaches these days, any decent sports club should have staff who are not only trained in their individual sport, but also first aid certified and cleared to work with children.

Sports clubs also offer a great social outlet for kids. Not only will they participate in the sport, but they'll meet other kids who share their interest. Participating in team sports also teaches many positive values for kids, and all sports should be taught in an environment of fair play and sportsmanship.

Whatever activity they end up doing, your child should have a good time, do some exercise, and meet other kids. That's a combination that's hard to beat.
