Individual vs group yoga classes
Yoga has been popular in the west since the 1970s both as a form of exercise and as a way to relax and reduce stress. Yoga classes have become a mainstay of gyms and community centers ever since. Recently, however, a new form of yoga has been growing in popularity - one on one yoga. So how do the two compare? What are the merits of one on one vs. classes?
One on one yoga offers all the benefits of yoga classes, such as increased flexibility, stamina, and strength, in a concentrated form. When you are working with an instructor one on one, the session will be designed to meet your individual needs, allowing you to learn proper form and account for any injuries or issues you may have. There is also more time for the instructor to work on areas such as yoga philosophy, breathing, and meditation techniques. One-on-one sessions are suitable for all ability and experience levels, and can be taught in the home, in a yoga studio, or in a health club.
Classes are still the most popular way of studying yoga, and offer several benefits. Firstly, they are considerably less expensive than one on one sessions - one tenth of the cost typically. Then there are the social benefits - often times, it's simply more fun to attend a class with others, especially as you get to know the other members of your class. And when you are struggling with a difficult pose, it helps to others going through the same difficulties!
Whichever route you choose, this ancient form of Indian exercise will soon have you looking and feeling better.
